Selected Technique:
Dynamic Replacement

Treatment Area:
3,307 m²

Gamarco Construction Inc. approached Menard Canada to improve the soil of the foundations and the slab under the multi-use building at 3500 rue Gaumont in Laval, Quebec. The land area to be improved was 3,307m2, including an overflow of 3m.

Ground Conditions

The geotechnical data extracted from the drilling reports indicated to us, throughout the site, the following soil profile:

  • Heterogeneous fill (silt, sand, gravel, clay, organic matter and blocks) From 2.08 to 3.05m deep.
  • Silt and clay deposit from 2.13 to 2.44m (EL = 22.42m to EL = 22.11m) in depth.
  • Granular deposit (glacial moraine) From 2.13 to 3.05m (EL = 22.11m to EL = 20.6m) up to 9.37m (EL = 15.10m) depth.
  • Loose to compact compactness with an “N” index between 7 and 24.e

Menard Canada Solution

Menard Canada carried out Dynamic Compaction using a conventional crane to densify the granular soils to a thickness of 3 to 5 meters.
