Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Design Engineer to join our dynamic team specializing in ground improvement solutions. This position is ideal for an experienced geotechnical engineer who is passionate about both design and practical implementation. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing complex design tasks, mentoring junior staff, supporting project execution, and ensuring robust QA/QC procedures.

  • Located in Kelowna, BC or Vancouver, BC

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering design of ground improvement projects from concept to final design

  • Be a key player in developing the Ground Improvement and Soil Mixing markets in Western Canada

  • Perform numerical modeling and analysis using software such as Plaxis 2D and other geotechnical tools

  • Act as a primary technical point of contact during design development and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders

  • Contribute to pre-design and feasibility studies during bidding and proposal development stages

  • Provide guidance and technical mentorship to junior engineers to foster professional growth and capability development

  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal QA/QC procedures to ensure engineering quality and consistency

  • Participate in the formation, review and approval of design documents, drawings, and technical reports

  • Support field teams and project managers to ensure seamless transition from design to execution

  • Promote practical, cost-effective solutions that align with construction realities and client needs

  • Collaborate with the Business Development, Estimating and Sales teams

  • As required, assist with estimating and proposal writing

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with design-build or specialty ground improvement contractors

  • Familiarity with various ground improvement techniques such as stone columns, dynamic compaction, soil mixing and rigid inclusions

  • Experience in seismic design and liquefaction analysis will be asset

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with field exposure

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (minimum)

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license with EGBC in good standing

  • Experience in geotechnical software such as Plaxis, Settle3, Slope/W among others considered a strong asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work independently in a collaborative team environment

Experience & Languages 

  • Years of experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in geotechnical or ground improvement engineering

  • Excellent verbal and written command of English

  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent judgment in technical matter
