Vibratory Stone Columns, often identified as Stone Columns, Vibro- Replacement Stone Columns, Vibro-Piers, or Aggregate Piers, are densely compacted aggregate columns installed through in-situ soils to dramatically improve their engineering properties.

The installation typically starts with the predrilling of a hole, especially for denser soil types, or to decrease the amount of ground displacement throughout the installation process. Then, a predetermined amount of crushed stone is introduced into the hole, followed by a specialized vibratory probe that penetrates to the planned design depth through its own sheer weight and vibrations. By repeating these steps repeatedly, a vertical stone column inclusion is created and eventually forms a high-strength grid pattern that is ready to take the load effectively. 

How it Works

Vibro Stone Columns are used to effectively increase bearing capacity, reduce total and differential settlements, improve stability on slopes, and prevent liquefaction by increasing shear strength within the soil through the vertical inclusions draining characteristics. One of the main attributes of Vibro Stone Columns that make them a favoured approach is that they can be installed very quickly when compared to deep foundation methods, resulting in significantly shorter project timelines.
