An Economical & Reliable Solution for Mitigating Water Flow

A Slurry Wall, sometimes called a Diaphragm Wall, is a non-structural underground barrier with extremely low permeability that is used to significantly prevent water runoff, the flow of groundwater, and any soil contaminants that might be associated with it.

  • Incredibly low permeability
  • Contains contaminated groundwater
  • A Cost-effective solution
  • Environmentally Sound: non-disruptive system
  • Mitigates liability of contaminant flow to neighbouring properties

  • Contaminated soils
  • Very soft soils
  • Soils with high groundwater
  • Treat soils up to 30m deep
  • Wall thickness of 750-1500mm

A slurry wall starts with a trench excavating with a long-reach excavator to remove existing soil material. Once the entire trench area has been excavated, a mix of soil removed from the trench is mixed together with a soil-bentonite or cement-bentonite mix. Once mixed, it retains a semi-fluid state as it is poured into the trench through the use of an excavator. Once the trench is filled in multiple passes, the mixture begins to cure very rapidly, effectively stopping any potential runoff right away due to its initial density.

How it Works

This wall technique is very often used for effectively stopping flows near bodies of open water and walls around excavations/tunnels in a variety of soils with very high groundwater tables. In addition, its blocking ability makes it a popular choice in environmental remediation projects since it is so effective at limiting the movement of contaminants from one area to another.
