What it is:

Vibro-Replacement reinforces existing soil with a network of stone columns with a diameter up to 900 mm and depths down to 30 m.

How it works:

The process uses an eccentric vibrating probe for drilling the column and compaction tiers of the incorporated material (stone) from the base of the column to the existing grade level. The network and column diameter are tailored to the performance criteria to be met.

Why it’s used:

Like most soil enhancement techniques, use of ballasted columns reduces settling, increases soil bearing capacity, and also accelerates soil consolidation through the high drainage capacity of the column material. Ballasted columns are especially effective for improving slippage stability on slopes and to treat soil against liquefaction.
