Dans le cadre du r\u00e9am\u00e9nagement d\u2019un h\u00f4tel existant \u00e0 Thunder Bay (Ontario), des travaux d\u2019am\u00e9lioration de sol \u00e9taient n\u00e9cessaires pour soutenir le nouvel h\u00f4tel propos\u00e9 de trois \u00e9tages.<\/p>\n

Ground Conditions<\/h3>\n

Les sols du site sont constitu\u00e9s d\u2019une couche peu profonde de remblais jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une profondeur de 2 \u00e0 3 m\u00e8tres, sous-tendue par des sols argileux compressibles et mous jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une profondeur d\u2019environ 9 m\u00e8tres, d\u2019une couche dense de 2 \u00e0 3 m\u00e8tres de sols sableux, et enfin de sols plus argileux jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une profondeur de 30 m\u00e8tres ou plus.<\/p>\n

Avant les travaux d\u2019am\u00e9lioration de sol, le site a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9barrass\u00e9 de la terre v\u00e9g\u00e9tale, de l\u2019asphalte et des fondations de b\u00e2timents existants. Une plate-forme de travail granulaire a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tablie.<\/p>\n

Menard Canada proposed using Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC), anchored in the dense sand layer to support the loads of the new building. The CMC system allows for the control of both total and differential settlement and ensures bearing capacity for the footings and slab-on-grade structure. In total, over 200 CMCs were installed to support the building. The CMC\u2019s performance was verified using Static Load Testing.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
