Property Development Group is constructing a multi-outlet shopping centre alongside Evans Parkway in Chilliwack, BC as part of their Eagle Landing development.
Dynamic Compaction (DC) was required to increase the relative density of the host foundation soils to prevent unacceptable liquefaction induced settlement of the buildings during a major seismic event. The DC treatment area was divided into three zones where different DC energy levels were applied based on fill depth and/or structure performance requirements. DC energy was applied over three phases plus a finishing “ironing” phase to effectively treat the soil to a maximum depth of 9m. The work was carried out adjacent to a Shell service station and across the road from the Eagle Landing west development, both sites where the ground improvement work was also previously carried out by Menard Canada.
